Down on the Farm

Bonjour et Bienvenue `a My Little Paris

Spring has officially sprung at my house. Saturday was a lovely warm, windy day.........a perfect day to pack up the grandboys and head out to the farm. Well........maybe not perfect, because of the wind, but I was itching to spend a day with them and to get outside for awhile. I've been working really hard on the new boutique and my year end with my other business.......and there's nothing like a day with the boys to help me unwind and relax. Actually........"unwind and relax" might be a bit of an understatement........as I was completely exhausted by the end of the day lol

We arrived about 10.......they were hungry for lunch, knowing it was a wiener roast, so we started the fire and set off on a long walk. It's beautiful out there, quiet........simple. I love getting into my farm clothes and rubber boots and filling my days with wood smoke and wind and fresh air. There was a little" rubber boot" envy this year, as the boys only have camo rubber boots............and mine, have horses on them lol. We played and explored and laughed.......lunch, predictably, was sublime, and soon after they were ready to go to "my house" to get into their legos.

After supper, when they'd gone home for a warm bath and a soft cozy bed.........I couldn't help thinking about what a simple, wonderful day it had been. It was a step back in time, no cell phones, no TV or iPads or video games......or makeup, jewelry, dress clothes.........we had fun, we talked, they helped me get supper ready and they played and played............their imaginations went wild with their lego ......again it reminded me of my time at the lake as a kid.........or, of my time as a kid period. We built forts, played games and used our imaginations, often I would get lost in a book ...........I socialized with others, had friends, spent time with my family, with my grandparents, my aunts, uncles and cousins.

I guess what I'm saying is that I know that the world turns, that things change......I get that, and I'm aware that I wouldn't be able to connect with you without my laptop and the internet........but the old ways shouldn't be abandoned completely. It's worth letting them into your life..........it's not just the kids, it's the grown ups too, that can benefit from dialing things back. Our day at the farm was every bit as good for me as it was for them......and I, can't wait to do it again.
